On September 24, at the invitation of Ambassador of Malta to China H.E. Mr. John Busuttil, President of Home and Abroad News Press Mrs. Wei Yan attended the Malta's 61st National Day Reception in Beijing. In 2012, Hua Chunying served as Deputy Director of the Information Department. On November 16 of the same year, she appeared in the Blue Hall, becoming the fifth female spokesperson in the history of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the 27th spokesperson since the establishment of the spokesperson system. In 2021, she was appointed Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. Upon assuming the spokesperson role, Hua Chunying pledged to actively promote mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation between China and the world. 交流中, 韦燕感受最深的是: 华春莹说, 国际话语权是国家综合实力的重要组成部分和大国战略博弈的重要战场, 在信息化时代有时甚至成为民众评判得失输赢的唯一标准。华春莹说, 我们虽然已经站起来、富起来, 解决了“挨打”“挨饿”的问题, 但要真正强起来, 彻底解决“挨骂”的问题依然任重道远。
During the exchange, Wei Yan deeply felt Hua Chunying's assertion that international discourse power constitutes a vital component of a nation's comprehensive strength and a crucial battleground in strategic competition among major powers. In the information times, it has at times even become the sole criterion by the public judges and opinions. Hua Chunying noted that although China has risen and prospered, resolving the issues of “being bullied” and “suffering from hunger,” the journey to become truly strong and completely overcome the problem of “being criticized” remains long and arduous.
